Description

The aim of this IP is:

  1. To assess the proportion of human-adapted MRSA CC398 among MRSA CC398 isolates from humans and to analyse the transcriptome of S. aureus CC398 with special focus on factors enabling re-adaptation processes.
  2. To analyse environmental factors triggering the success of MRSA CC398 especially in the clinical setting. We will investigate factors of medical facilities´ inanimate environment that might provide selective conditions for S. aureus CC398 clonal lineage facilitating the spread of this lineage a clinical setting.
  3. To evaluate novel MRSA selective antimicrobial agents and eradication strategies and to investigate resistance mechanisms comparing different livestock-associated SCCmec types. Novel antimicrobial phage endolysins will be assessed in in-vitro and ex-vivo studies to evaluate novel, highly selective eradication strategies to prevent MRSA colonization and infection. Additionally, livestock associated resistance mechanisms against β-lactam antibiotics will be investigated in detail comparing mecA with the recently discovered mecC homologue.
